Poem: But Happiness
I know nothing about happiness / why it arrives strangerly / collapses on the doorstep
But Happiness
I know nothing about happiness why it arrives strangerly collapses on the doorstep an exhausted heap how it slinks away a bloody-furred thing dies alone Neither do I know about love
Why does this exist? (a stuffy artist statement)
Just a wee one today. Have you ever had one of those days where you feel like you don’t really know anything at all? I’m a recovering over-advice-giver, and learning to say, “I don’t know” and then just stop talking or explaining or excusing yourself for why you aren’t the Brilliant Guru of All Things has been freeing. What a load of pressure for no reason at all.
So, yeah. Am I happy at this moment in my life? I am. It feels rather nice. I’m going to try not to spoil it by navel-gazing and dissecting it to figure out why it’s here and how to ensnare it into staying. I am just going to sit on my porch with my 94-pound dog and enjoy the day and write.
Something that stuck with me this week:
A few months ago I started a new job as a data analyst for a PI firm. This is the most fun job I’ve ever had, and it’s amazing how much overall life satisfaction leaps when you’re happy with things that you spend a big chunk of your day on instead of being miserable for hours and hours.
And now, an Irish blessing because I like those:
May the winds of fortune sail you,
May you sail a gentle sea.
May it always be the other guy
Who says this drink's on me.
I post The Sooth episodes on Wednesday mornings and other stuff on Friday mornings
I may also post at other times, but for sure on those days (I shoot for 6:00am PST delivery but don’t always quite make that). See you then!
About Rachel
I’m a writer, OSINT analyst, Mom to six, and slightly weathered woman (I refuse to call myself “middle-aged”) based in Oregon. That all sounds very mature and stuffy, which is why *this* is a space for play and experimentation and fun things.
